Blood pressure is pressure on the blood vessel walls in every part of the body.

Blood pressure – if someone measures pressure higher than 140/90 mmHg more than three times this person is considered to have elevated blood pressure.

Blood pressure – blood flows through the blood vessels because it is under certain pressure.

Blood pressure is pressure on the blood vessel walls in every part of the body.

This pressure is generated by heart acting as a pump.

At each blood ejection from the heart blood pressure rises, and at each flow of blood into the heart the pressure is lowered. Therefore, we measure two values: upper (systolic) and lower (diastolic) pressure.

Although acceptable pressure varies from person to person, normal systolic pressure values are between 115 and 120 mmHg, and diastolic 75 to 80 mmHg.

It changes during day and night and is subject to many external and internal factors. These changes are the result of numerous mechanisms activation where body strives to maintain appropriate flow depending on the change in living conditions.

High blood pressure

If someone measures pressure higher than 140/90 mmHg more than three times this person is considered to have elevated blood pressure.

This means that heart is working overtime and resistance of blood vessel walls is increased.

This leads to heart overload and can damage blood vessels of all the organs in the body due to increased pressure on their walls.

Increased pressure is almost in all cases a disorder of numerous dysbalanced mechanisms. Here we are talking about either of emotional reactions, physical efforts or glands that excrete hormones.

Dangerous salt

Increased salt retention in the body is usually to blame for high amount of circulating blood. It intensifies the pressure of the blood vessel walls and increases the pressure. On the other hand, many complicated mechanisms through various hormonal systems increase the blood vessel squeeze and thereby increase blood flow resistance. The result is the same – elevated blood pressure.

How to recognize high pressure?

You can recognize high blood pressure by some of these symptoms:

  • Redness of the face – consequence of increased blood vessel veins directly in the skin due to increased blood flow
  • Headache and head pressure
  • Nose bleeding
  • Getting tired more easily, weak concentration and bad sleep can be symptoms of this disease.

Low blood pressure

Value of 90/60 mm Hg or lower is generally considered to be low pressure, though some people live and function normally and feel good with this values. Pressure this low can cause vertigo or even unconsciousness.

A sudden drop in blood pressure can be caused by standing up from a sitting or lying position. People with this type of low pressure often have symptoms such as dizziness or blurred vision.

The occurrence of low pressure after meals is called postprandial hypotension. It predominantly affects the elderly, and is the result of blood flow to the digestive system after eating.

How to recognize low blood pressure?

Low blood pressure can be caused by many health conditions, here are some:

  • Pregnancy – when vascular system expands rapidly blood pressure tends to drop.
  • Dehydration – low fluid quantity leads to low volume of circulating blood.
  • Heart problems
  • Hormonal disorders – hypoactive or hyperactive thyroid gland, with a deficiency or excess thyroid hormone. Adrenal insufficiency and low blood sugar may have the same effect.
  • Lack of vitamins B9 and B12 – without these body doesn’t produce enough erythrocytes.
  • Some medicaments – alfa and beta-blockers, antidepressants and sildenafil medicaments such as Viagra can also lead to low blood pressure.
